D., 1880; a furniture inventory of Green's Savannah home; news clippings pertaining to Green's imprisonment and death; a manuscript describing General William T. Sherman's occupation of Green's Savannah home; and a document from the War Department explaining Green's 1861 arrest. Also included is the will of Aminta E. Green, and newspaper clippings regarding the death of Francis Sorrel Green and Aminta E. Green.

This collection contains a four page newspaper handrwritten by a Confederate prisoner of war at Fort Delaware in Pea Patch Island, Delaware. The newspaper comments on Sherman's March through North Carolina, General Lee's surrender, the assassination of President Lincoln, the author's dislike of President Andrew Johnson, and the price of tobacco and bread in the camp. The first issue of this title is held at the Georgia Historical Society (ms0766).

The collection consists of correspondence of Stephen Corker and Margaret Mytris Palmer Corker, from 1859-1916. Correspondence is mainly from Stephen Corker to his wife, from camps near Georgia Roanoke Island, Fredericksburg, and Winchester; and U.S. Military Prison, Johnson's Island, Ohio. Corker writes about his health, deaths and health of members in his regiment, 400 prisoners sent to Point Lookout, Maryland, rumors of a prisoner exchange, and family concerns. Other correspondence are from Corker while in Washington, DC; and from Margaret to Frank Corker, and other friends and family members. Included is a letter dated Headquarters, August 18, 1863, to Mrs. M. M. Corker, signed "Robert E. Lee," regarding the fate of her husband. The collection also consists of genealogy of Stephen Corker dating back to 1775.

The collection consists of a diary kept by Charles H. Knox in which he describes the battle which resulted in his capture, travel to Andersonville Prison, layout of the prison, food and prices, number of prisoners arriving on various days, punishments, hangings and exchange of prisoners. The collection also includes two letters Knox wrote to his wife: dated Andersonville, Georgia, May 30, 1864, regarding Knox's imprisonment; dated Annapolis, March 15, 1865, regarding his health and his exchange.

The collection consists of papers relating to Robert E. Lee and the Lee family from 1838-1872. The bulk of the collection (1861-1864) contains correspondence from Lee regarding military activities of the Confederate Army during the Civil War. The letters discuss troop movements; supplies for troops; battle strategies for Elk Mountain, the Huntersville campaign, Cheat Mountain (W. Va.), and Dalton (Ga.); an exchange of prisoners (1862); casualty estimates at the battle of Fredericksburg; and reinforcement needs. Correspondees include Joseph E. Brown, Howell Cobb, and Henry Rootes Jackson. The collection also includes handwritten copies of 18th century land grants and indentures of John Parke Custis and a letter of Mary Custis Lee dated January 1872, Arlington (Va.) pertaining to proof of purchase of Arlington and the validity of her title to the property.

The collection consists of four manuscript volumes titled Personal reminiscences, created by William Starr Basinger, dated 1889-1896. The four volumes of handwritten reminiscences include histories of the Basinger and Starr families; involvement of William Elon Basinger in Dade's Battle of the 2nd Seminole War in Florida; going to college at the University of Georgia; and the law profession. Volumes also contain details of Basinger's involvement in the Savannah Volunteer Guards (later the 8th Georgia Battalion) during the American Civil War. Basinger was stationed in Ft. Screven, Savannah, Ft. Boggs and Ft. Wagoner in Charleston, and near Richmond, VA, where he was captured and sent to prison on Johnson's Island, OH. Basinger also discusses his activities after the war including his move to Dahlonega, Georgia and his presidency at the North Georgia Agricultural College. The fifth volume in the collections, Savannah Volunteer Guards, is a composite typescript, taken in part from Basinger's Personal reminiscences.

The collection consists of the papers of the Branch family of Savannah, Georgia from 1830-1961. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence between Charlotte Sawyer Branch and her sons John L., Sanford W., and Hamilton McDevil Branch, who served mainly in the 8th Georgia Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. The letters describe the 1st Battle of Bull Run, the death of John, the subsequent capture of Sanford (who had stayed with his dying brother), the Seven Days Battle, the 2nd Battle of Bull Run, and the Battle of Gettysburg, where Sanford was wounded and captured again. Hamilton transferred to the 54th Georgia Infantry Regiment and writes about the regiment's involvement in the Atlanta Campaign, particularly the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. He also writes from Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee while serving with Nathan Bedford Forrest.

The collection consists of correspondence, writings, printed material, photographs, financial papers, and scrapbooks. The correspondence is divided into family and business with family letters mainly among Alexander H. Stephens, John A. Stephens and Linton Stephens. They discuss family matters, politics and legal cases. Included is a letter from Alexander H. Stephens describing his trip to Athens to take his entrance examination, in which he describes the university and town as well as the countryside between Athens and Washington, Georgia. Business correspondence includes letters from Herschel Johnson, Howell Cobb, Joseph E. Brown, and Joseph H. Lumpkin. There are also items relating to John Stephens' imprisonment at Johnson Island (OH) during the Civil War. Letters during wartime included lists the members of the Stephens Rifles, flag design proposals, petitions for military positions, and discussions on the release of a Union officer from Andersonville. There is a folder of 1851 correspondence concerning a possible duel between Thomas W. Thomas and James M. Smythe, and materials regarding the surveying of Michigan and Texas Territories. Printed material includes several speeches of Alexander H. Stephens. The scrapbooks contain newspapers clippings about Alexander H. Stephens. Included is a plantation account book of the Simpson plantation, in which are lists of enslaved people, a journal of daily farm work, printed rules for managing farms and slaves, and signed contracts with freedmen.
